If you have ever been told you can not naturally reduce or shrink a dog lipoma and surgery is the only option, this is for you.
The truth is you CAN shrink lipomas! I know a benign fatty tumor can shrink because I saw my dog’s lipoma shrink to almost nothing.
Since writing my last blog, 2 part dog cancer blog, I have learned some new information from a pet health seminar that you may have never heard of before!
Why should you believe me?
Look at my cancer blog, do you see a lipoma on my dog, the black lab? I’m guessing no because it was impossible to see and sometimes I had a hard time finding it by touch. Yet I know how big they can grow as I saw my furry friends grow (German Shepherd Mix in pic).
How did I shrink my dog’s benign bump? I gave my dog the supplements and herbal remedies listed below AND I changed his food to stop a dog lipoma from growing. We both received good results applying these methods as they helped me shrink my dog’s lipoma and I dissolved my breast cysts.
Dog lipomas are a non-cancerous lump
Lipomas are fatty growths or masses also known as benign tumors or non-cancerous bumps. For many dogs, they may not appear until later in life. However, I have known a dog who had a lipoma at 2 years old.
The bigger question is why are lipomas becoming so prevalent now when it was not years ago or even seem normal and acceptable. Here I will discuss the causes and how to shrink or prevent lipomas.
Why you should NOT surgically remove a dog lipoma
At the first sign of a lump and bump, go to the vet to have it checked. A physical exam will likely be done first. If they want to test your dog’s lipoma, they may aspirate the lipoma. Aspiration is a simple procedure where they insert a needle in the lipoma to draw out some fluid for testing.
I do NOT recommend letting them cut your dog, biopsy it, or do surgery right away. The ONLY time surgery should be done is if it poses a health issue! Furthermore, some vets and dog owners have reported that after the lipoma has been removed, another lipoma or several more appear.
Why is that? I think of tumors like weeds in the respect that if you don’t change the environment, they will come back.
What causes canine lipomas?
Vets who look at pet health from a holistic point of view believe lipomas appear because of all the chemicals they are exposed to from vaccines, processed food, and environmental toxins. Also, some veterinarians have associated microchips with lipomas. Yes, microchips have been found directly under lipomas, and ingredients from vaccines have been found in lipomas and tumors. I know of an instance of a dog having a tumor removed only to find out it contained a foxtail.
Reduce toxins to decrease your dog’s chances of benign tumors
I covered this in my cancer blog in good detail. A quick summary is to remove as many toxins as possible. A few ways to accomplish this are to give your pets filtered water to remove things like arsenic, utilize pet-friendly cleaning methods, buy lead-free pet bowls and use a chemical-free flea treatment. Removing toxins like heavy metals takes time and is a multi-step approach!
1) Outdoor chemicals: While we can’t control all chemicals like the ones that are sprayed in the air or those that come to your property because of neighbors using them, we can do a few things to protect our pets.
1b. If it’s possible try to learn the schedule of when the community will be spraying so you can keep your pets indoors and out of any areas that have been freshly sprayed.
1c. Limit the time you allow your pets to walk on community grass. For example, I taught my dog “potty or off.” When you bring your pet(s) inside, you can wipe them down or soak their feet to reduce some of the chemicals they may have picked up during their walk or roll in the grass. *I have seen clients’ dogs chew their paws after walking on the grass. Not everyone has a bowl or washtub designated for paw soaking so I have used a wet paper towel to wipe their dog’s paws. This has always reduced or completely stopped their chewing.
2) Clothes: as it turns out many of our clothes are treated with chemicals like formaldehyde and other cancer-causing chemicals. This makes me believe it’s possible for our pet’s shirts and sweaters may be as well. Even if your pet does not wear shirts, your clothes could be a source of exposure. I wash everything before I wear it.
3) Furniture and bedding: Buying a non-toxic pet bed is important because cat beds and dog beds can contain up to 70 chemicals, dog blankets should be washed before using with eco-friendly laundry detergent. For furniture, try to buy it without stain repellants, air it out before bringing it inside, wipe down furniture, and put a blanket over it.
3 herbal remedies that reduce lipomas
As a reminder, I suggest certain brands because many products are not made with quality ingredients OR have counterproductive ingredients (Ex: natural flavor). This company ships quickly. One customer got her products from the West Coast to the East coast in 2 days!
1) This herbal supplement helps slow down the growth of lipomas, gets rid of UTIs, and assists with Addison’s, *studies show it helps lower blood pressure and LDL (bad cholesterol), improves heart function and increases flexibility. Dosing instructions: if you can not get your pet to take this remedy orally, you can put it in their fresh-cooked dog food.
2) This herbal remedy contains several ingredients that help slow the growth of lipomas, is helpful for arthritis, and oral health, and is an anti-viral that will help prevent the dog flu aka canine influenza! Dosage guidelines are on the bottle. Update Jan 2018: Turmeric is one of the multiple ingredients in this remedy. Turmeric is the most common recommendation by 30+ holistic vets for cancer. Also, I tried this remedy myself and it doesn’t taste bad at all. I thought I would share in the event anyone was worried their pet would not take it.
3) This herbal remedy is anti-viral, helps the immune and lymphatic system, and last but not least can be given orally and/or applied topically to lipomas.
*Caution: This is not a pet-specific version. As I continue to look for one, PLEASE NOTE you should NOT follow the label for dosing instructions. To learn how to calculate a proper dosage for dogs or cats here is the formula along with an example calculation for you to practice. For topical applications, there is no amount given. I’m running my own experiment and can tell you one to two drops go a long way.
5 vitamins that may lessen fatty tumors or benign lumps in dogs
A good nutritional foundation will boost your pet’s immune system which should help prevent lipomas from forming or stop them from getting larger. They are listed in order of importance.
1) Vitamin C is helpful in preventing and fighting lipomas is essential for wound healing, is good for heart health, and eyesight, and cleanses the lymph system, blood, and liver.
2) Blue-green algae is rich in bio-available nutrients, iron, and a source of protein. It pulls out toxins that may be contributing to tumors and eye issues. It is anti-cancerous and helps skin and nails. Finally, it may stop your pet from eating grass (one customer reported that worked for her dog in the comments below). For best results, this algae works best WITH #3 green juice.
Dosage: 1/8 tsp per 10 lbs with a maximum daily dosage of 1/2 tsp for a 70 lb dog. Add directly to food or make a “green drink” as seen in my pet liver detox blog. REMINDER: start slow to make sure they like it and no “reactions” occur. Tip: I add a little bit of coconut water to make it more palatable and it is supposed to give it an extra “boost.” Fyi: not all coconut water tastes the same, I like this coconut water. CATS: I confirmed with a vet that cats can have blue-green algae too!
2b. This is a dog-specific algae Bonus: If you have used several of his holistic dog products and are seeing good results, you can enter to win a monthly contest to win free products. Dosage is included on the label.
3) “Green juice” takes ahold of other toxins not grabbed by #2 and expels them from your pet’s body. It is high in chlorophyll, also helps with gut health, and can aid with digestion, bad breath, and kidney issues. Introducing “greens” to your dog or cat, and addresses any deficiencies. Administration: You can add some water to make a drink or add it to their food.
4) B-12 Helps with anxiety, heals the neurological system, aids in recovery from physical injuries, and is great for thyroid health. 1 drop by mouth
5) Melatonin: It helps slow the growth of tumors. FYI: I looked at 10+ pet supplements and they all had ingredients I didn’t like. This is a low-dose “human” version, it is a capsule so you can easily dump it into food if they don’t take supplements easily. Dosage: *Consult your vet as it will be based on your dog’s weight and if you are using it for other health conditions.
Keep in mind that this did not happen overnight and will not go away overnight. Consistency will be key!
In part two, I will discuss diet which is equally as important. Foods to take out and add to your dog’s diet, herbs, and spices are known to shrink or prevent lipomas.

What’s sad is we all love our soul mates and are struggling to help them. The traditional vet wants money to chop into our babies and spread it. Unless the imbalance is cured in body, they will grow and they will come back. Dog Naturally talks about the problems existing.
My 6 yr. old whippet developed a few small lipomas and one above his elbow that went from the size of a pea to the size of a large, round peach pit in under a year. I worried that it would become a problem if it kept getting bigger and got a quote from the vet to remove it. $900 dollars. I was appalled and decided to keep a close eye on it. Good article. I’d like to mention that other environmental factors, like mold, can affect pets’ immune system and leqs to lipomas (or worse). If at all concerned, get your home tested and remediated, or move out. We are doing this now for our 110-year-old home. Our spaniel mix dog (7 years old, we’ve had her for 4) has a silver-dollar size lipoma on her back hear her spine. We are keeping a close eye on it. But I’ve tested positive for a number of molds, and fear that she (and probably our cats, 2 of whom have died from cancer in the last 5 years) is being harmed. Very scarey news when you find mold is devastating your health, and the health of yohr loved ones.

Question-what is the proper dosage of selfheal for a 65 lbs ridgeback? I just started her with 50ml twice daily and am not sure it’s the effective dose. She has a small lipoma on her belly. Also getting violet tincture soon to use in conjunction with the selfheal.

My dog, Ringo has a benign tumor in his nose. He started bleeding profusely from his nose, which was our first clue something was wrong. I just purchased the three herbs you recommended, but I am unsure how to administer them. Should I mix in some food or put drops in his mouth? I hope you can address this issue as soon as possible.
I always put them in my dog’s mouth while he was laying down. Doing it while he was laying down made it so easy, lift his lip, and insert a few drops at a time. Don’t do it too fast that way he has time to swallow. Btw, I was always told not to touch the dropper from the herbal remedy to your mouth b/c you could contaminate it. This method of laying down always made it a breeze. The other options are you could put the drops in 1 ounce of water and let him drink it or give it to him by mouth using a needless syringe.
I tried putting the herbs in my dog’s mouth, which resulted in major struggles. He is quite large, so guess who won? Then I tried mixing them with 2 Tbsp of organic canned dog food. He loves it!
Do not give Turmeric for a nasal tumor, it will make it bleed more.

I have listed these specific vitamins because I have looked into the brand, ingredients, sources and manufacturing. Unfortunately other brands may not be of the same quality and some put stuff in there that is Not on the label. I have a b12 listed on this blog.
Hello. My baby (dog), Chiqui is 14. At the beginning of 2020 I noticed a lump on her upper chest. I thought (hoped) it was a fatty lump. I continued to grow so I took her to the vet. They aspirated it and the doc told me it was bad. I was/am devastated. She recommended I wait and observe her spirits and eating habits, basically quality of life because she felt that because of her age, she didnt deserve to be put through surgery chemo etc. Honestly I felt really bad to do so. So I waited. We are now a year and some months forward and she is doing great. Mind you the lump has grown to the size of an over grown grapefruit (heartbreaking) but she runs…eats…plays and loves her walks on her stroller every day. It has now bursted through the skin and I find myself curing her every day and cleaning it and applying neosporin so that it does not get infected. But it does have many small tumors growing on it and they burst, bleed a little, i clean w purified water, as I was told that too much hydrogen peroxide could burn, and i apply neosporin to avoid infection and cover with non adhesive gauzes. Shes a happy baby thank god. Miracle to me. Now I would like to someones opinion, knowledge, advise….what can I apply on the big tumor to soften skin and avoid infection besides what I am already doing. Sorry to hear about Chiqui’s lump. All of the herbal remedies and supplements are listed in order of importance. Topically You can apply the #2 herbal supplement, it can also be ingested (by mouth). Some of these supplements have anti-cancerous properties. Have you read part 2 which talks about which foods to take OUT and add to her diet? Hello there! I recently noticed my dog has had tumors in the mouth: (Epulis I think) I read that it was common and often benign but to still get checked out of course which we will, but we also bought your suggestions to help possibly rid them without surgery or prevent it from ever happening again. Have you ever had experience with these types of small tumors in the mouth? Anything we should take into consideration for these in particular?
I have not personally had experience with an epulis. No matter where the bump is on the body, many are caused and fixed by many of the same things. I do know someone who did and referred them to this blog. They followed some of the tips from this 2 part blog and it DID go away.

All of the things I posted it what I did for my dog to help shrink his lipoma. Each of these suggestions help in different ways. Hi I’m looking at the links you have posted for reducing lipomas as my dog has a large tennis ball size one on his hind leg. It’s not giving him bother but I’m frightened it will do if it gets any bigger. I’m unsure on exactly what product to buy as the link takes you to various products. Is link 1 for hemp oil?
