The worst puppy food is making up your own homemade recipe without the guidance from a pet food specialist like myself.

Additionally, a study shows AI can’t craft dog food recipes either; all 11 fell short nutritionally for adult dogs and puppies.

Furthermore, even meal makers or base mixes like this one will not do the trick.

During 2025 Dr. Becker Pet food reviews, Dr. Recker ran this base mix through her software and said this base mix did NOT meet the nutritional requirements of puppies.

Puppy food brands to avoid for me would be brands like you find in the big box stores like Hills, Purina, Pedigree etc..
