Recent studies have shown people are not taking their earned days off.  Not taking time off can not only hurt your health, it may be hurting your chances to hold on to your job or get a promotion.

Now that you know vacation is the best thing for you, pack your travel bag because I have a few little “gems” for you!

This list will provide you a few places to visit without the high prices and long lines of Disneyland or Magic Mountain.

1) Original Farmers Market – The Grove

This is not like any other farmers market! Booths are permanently installed year round and there are 100+ gourmet vendors.

The Grove is a shopping center attached to the farmer’s market. It is comprised of higher-end stores, a dancing water fountain, an outdoor train that runs from one end of the market to the end of The Grove. It even “snows” on the streets of The Grove during Christmas.

2) Olvera Street – Los Angeles
Olvera Street is known as the oldest street and first neighborhood in Los Angeles. Across the street is Union Station. History buffs may enjoy visiting the museum. One piece of history is some of the shops are the old houses people used to live in!

3) Shopping – Los Angeles
Looking for some deals on clothing, fabric, diamonds or jewelry? Head over to the Diamond & Jewelry District or the Fashion District.

The Diamond District has over 5000 vendors making it likely that you’ll find a piece of jewelry or a diamonds to create your own perfect piece. Their website suggests doing some homework first before coming. They are open Mo-Sa 10-5. At the Fashion District, you can buy clothes and fabric. Hours of Operation: Mo-Su: 10-5.

4) Horseback Riding – Hollywood, CA
Choose from 1-2 hour daytime riding tours. You will ride through the hills of Griffith Park where you will see the famous Hollywood sign. They also offer evening rides as well! One package even includes a BBQ dinner upon your return to the stables.

5) Hiking with spectacular views- Hollywood, CA
The first of the two hiking spots is Baxter Street Stairs. While stairs are everywhere and may sound boring, this set of stairs will treat you to views of L.A. and The Griffith Observatory. If you need more of a workout and/or time outdoors, head over to Runyon Canyon.

Now that you’re ready to relax & get refreshed, treat your pets to a little R&R of their own by setting up pet sitting services.

Acknowledgments Thank you to Tomika, a fellow dog walker in LA, for the suggestions on the first four attractions.
