Frequently Asked Questions

What is the first step?
Call or email to set up your free consultation. The consultation is very important because it gives us a chance to get
familiar with each other but more importantly so you feel comfortable with entrusting your much-loved pet to my care and they
are comfortable with me.  Please allow 45 minutes for your consultation. Generally, only one consultation is needed but
should additional time or a second meeting be necessary a fee will apply.

How far in advance should I book services?
A few days should be sufficient, but during the holiday season you should book two months or more in advance. Please note
that calling less than the suggested time does not mean that we will not be able to accommodate your request.

Is there any paperwork to fill out?
Yes, we will send you the necessary information.  Please note, the  D'tails page has many helpful tips and suggestions!

What if I am not comfortable with having a stranger in my home?
No one understands this concern more than I do, since I previously felt this way. I have no reason to want to do anything else
than what I came there for, to care for you pet(s). Additionally, I am insured & bonded.

What is your key policy?
We require two ways to enter your home (Ex: 2 sets of keys or 1 set with garage code/opener).  You can be at ease knowing
that once we are in possession of your keys will we not visit your home unless we are providing service to your pets and in
the meantime they are stored safely in an undisclosed location for future service requests.  If you would like your keys
returned, please let me know which of the follow options you would like to use.  We are also considering a new method that
allows you to stay in position of your keys.

Do you have any breed restrictions or pets that you will not provide care for?
I do not have restrictions such as pit bulls, chow chows and rottweilers.  I love big dogs!  All "household" pets such as cats,
kittens, puppy's, hamster, guinea pigs, hermit crabs, fish birds, etc...are excepted.  However, I will not feed live animals to
other animals.

Are there any health requirements?
All pets need to be up-to-date on rabies & flea treatments (some natural treatments are excepted). If your pet is
sick/contagious pets please advise us so we can determine if services can be perform and any special arrangements that
will need to be made. Please understand these requests are made in the best interest of your pet as well as other pets we
may care for or encounter.

Will you pick up after my dog?
If your dog “takes care of business” while in my care, I will pick up after them. Not only is it the law, it helps prevent the spread
of diseases to other animals as well as humans.

Will my dog be walked on a leash?
Absolutely. The law requires a leash of 6 feet and under while in public.

What are your “round” hours?
Mo-Sa: 8-7 and Sun: appt. only. Visits will be performed during these hours; requests outside these hours will be charged an
additional fee.

What forms of payment do you accept?
At this time we only accept cash or check.

When is payment due?
Payment in full is due at your consultation.  Reservations for vacation visits will require a deposit up to 25% of total services
requested in order to hold your reservation, with remaining balance due 8 days prior to the start of scheduled service.

May I give my dog walker a tip?
Gratuities are appreciated although not expected.

Is there a mileage charge?
The first 15 miles of travel is included and starts from your pet sitters home. Any additional miles will be billed at 60 cents
p/mile p/visit.

Is there an extra charge for holidays?
There is an extra charge of $10-15 for the following holidays: Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (Th &
Fr), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day.

What is your Cancellation Policy?
The details of this policy will be outlined in your consultation. Please realize you are booking our time therefore, we may turn
away other business to reserve time for you which we may not be able to recover should you cancel.

Should I call you upon my return?
Yes
, please do so. If we do not hear from you, we could 1) make unnecessary or alarming phone calls to you or your
emergency contacts and 2) make another visit to your pets as the law requires a dog not to be left unattended more than 12
hours. *Additional fees will apply.

What is job sharing? Why is it not permitted?
Job sharing is when you share the care of your pet(s) with other friends, family or neighbors.  While we acknowledge the
financial benefit of having friends and family share the visits, it is stressful to your pet(s) as well as all parties caring for your
pet(s).  Additionally, there could be confusion about dates and your pet is forgotten about.  We at Happy Trails & Wag'n Tails
feel strongly about what is in best interest of your pet first and foremost and your home is secondary although important.  For
theses reasons we will not accept jobs of this nature.
